Is there a perfect style?

So fashion week is coming and it got me thinking about what real style means to me.  I used to think so. I thought that if you had an impeccable style, if you followed the latest fashion trends (without becoming a fashion victim like that movie i forgot its name!) you were gonna be a complete success and you'd be the envy of all. But as I grew older this idea changed.

Let's start by defining "style". The first definition with which I encountered was: "peculiar set of features that characterize a thing, a person, group or mode of action." But if applied to the world of fashion we can find that style is the trend that prevails on a certain period of time  and consists of many different qualities or characteristics.

Today I think that there is no perfect style.  As we grow older we discover what makes us feel good, attractive, comfortable, safe, beautiful; what makes us feel better in our own skin. Whatever your style is: sporty, classic, grunge, romantic, etc. etc... it doesn't matter if you go according to the fashion trends of the season, it matters how you feel and how you act in your society.

Remember, dress to be happy, to feel good, to succeed in whatever you do, and NEVER do it to fit in your social group. If you are true to your own style, others will follow you, you will be accepted and people will enjoy being around you. Copies are the worst forms of expression because at some point you'll stop being that copy.

¿Existe el estilo perfecto?

Pues se acercan las semanas de la moda y eso me hizo pensar en lo que el verdadero estilo significa para mi.  Solía pensar que sí.  Pensaba que si tenías un estilo impecable, si seguías las últimas tendencias de la moda (sin convertirte en una víctima de la moda) era un acierto total y serías la envidia de todos y todas.  Pero conforme fui creciendo esta idea cambió.

Empecemos por definir "estilo".  La primer definición con la que me topé fue: "Conjunto de rasgos peculiares que caracterizan una cosa, una persona, un grupo o un modo de actuación." Pero también si lo aplicamos al mundo de la moda podemos encontrar que estilo es la tendencia o corriente que predomina en una época y que está formado por cualidades o características muy diversas.

Hoy creo que no existe un estilo perfecto, creo que cada uno vamos descubriendo nuestro estilo. Conforme vamos creciendo vamos descubriendo lo que nos hace sentir bien, atractivas, cómodas, seguras, bellas; es decir, lo que nos hace sentirnos mejor en nuestra propia piel. Ya sea que tu estilo sea deportivo, clásico, grunge, romántico, etc. etc... no importa que vayas de acuerdo a la temporada y tendencias que dicta la moda...no importa tu edad, tu género, tu peso o estatura; importa cómo te sientes y cómo te desenvuelves dentro de tu sociedad.

Recuerda, vístete para ser feliz, para sentirte bien, para triunfar en lo que sea que hagas, y NUNCA lo hagas para encajar en tu grupo social.  Si eres auténtica, los demás te van a seguir, te van a aceptar y te van a querer tal cual eres.  Las copias son las peores formas de expresión pues en algún momento dejarás de ser esa copia.

What is Fashion?...the never ending question

"Fashion should be a form of escapism,

...And there are so many answers that when you think about defining Fashion, you never quite get to write it in a short sentence (or even a long one).  But I can tell you something, Fashion can be anything, can be found everywhere; has existed in the past, exists now, and will exist in the future.

So as I was doing a little internet research I found this: 

" FASHION is a statement, not a style.  Fashion does not have to be worn casually, nor outside the runway.  Fashion is fit for all sizes, for all people, for all ages.  Fashion is an art of personal self expression, not an excuse to  be pretty, popular and charismatic."

I love fashion because it is so universal, you can see fashion everywhere and link fashion to so many aspects of our lives. I love talking about fashion (and now writing!) and I don't mean just about trends, street style, fashion week, which a also enjoy A LOT; but there is so much more.  Let's talk about history, about designers, about legacy, politics, economy...about the past, the present and the future of Fashion.

...Existen tantas respuestas, que cuando quieres definirla simplemente no se puede en una oración ya sea pequeña o larga.  Pero si te puedo decir algo, la moda puede ser cualquier cosa, la puedes encontrar en todo lo que ves; ha existido en el pasado, existe ahora y va a existir en el futuro.

Mientras hacía algo de investigación en internet, encontré esta frase:

" LA MODA es una declaración, no un estilo.  La moda no tiene por qué ser usada casualmente ni fuera de la pasarela. La moda es apta para todos los tamaños, para todas las personas, para todas las edades. La moda es el arte de libre expresión personal, y no es una excusa para ser bonita, popular y carismática."

Me encanta la moda porque es universal, puedes verla en todos lados y ligarla con todos los aspectos de nuestras vidas.  Amo hablar sobre moda (y ahora escribir) y no me refiero sólo a tendencias, al street style o a las semanas de la moda, ¡que por supuesto me encantan!; es que hay mucho más para platicar.  Así que platiquemos sobre historia, sobre diseñadores, sobre su legado, política, economía...sobre el pasado, el presente y el futuro de la Moda.

Así es como The Style Registry comienza...te veo pronto!
